Leaving a gift in your will is a wonderful way to give back to your community and create a legacy of opportunity in your local area. With your support, Cheylesmore Community Centre can continue bringing people together for years to come, providing a valuable resource for people of all ages in the community.

There can also be a tax benefit from leaving a legacy to charity, as charitable donations are taken off before inheritance tax is calculated. In some cases, this can mean you leave more to your other beneficiaries. (Please note that we are not qualified to give legal or financial advice. Talk to your solicitor or financial advisor if you would like to learn more about the details and what it might mean in your circumstances.)

There are two options for a charity donation in your will – a percentage (a ‘residuary gift’) or a fixed amount (a ‘pecuniary gift’). Below are some example statements to consider with your solicitor. You can also ask for donations (‘in memoriam’) from your friends and family, a commonly chosen alternative to flowers. If you would like to let us know about your intentions, or if you have any questions, please drop an email to our Centre Manager, Paul Jamison, on paulj@cheylesmorecentre.co.uk or give us a call on +44 24 7650 2226. We are also very happy to discuss ways you might like your legacy gift to be honoured or recognised for future generations.

Residuary Gift

‘I give XX% of my estate to Cheylesmore Community Association of Cheylesmore Community Centre, 111 Arundel Road Coventry CV3 5JL, registered charity number 1136649, for its charitable purposes, and I further direct that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer of Cheylesmore Community Association for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said legacy.’

Pecuniary Gift

‘I give £XX to Cheylesmore Community Association of Cheylesmore Community Centre, 111 Arundel Road Coventry CV3 5JL, registered charity number 1136649, for its charitable purposes, and I further direct that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer of Cheylesmore Community Association for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said legacy.’

In Memoriam

You might also like to ask for charitable donations in your memory, for example as an alternative to flowers in your funeral plan. If you are considering this, talk to your family or ask your solicitor about including a request in your will.
